The only way for Serbia to overcome the economic crisis is to improve its business environment, thereby attracting new investors and keeping the old ones, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said during a meeting with Michelin Director for Southeast Europe Eric Faidy on Friday.

It will enable economic development, reduce unemployment and improve the standard of living, the presidential office for media relations stated.

The work of the government does not end with tax collection, but it also has to act as partner to investors, Nikolic noted.

It means the government has to get actively involved in solving all the problems in its jurisdiction the companies investing in Serbia could face, he explained.

Faidy informed nikolic about Michelin’s plans to modernize the company Tigar from Pirot, which is a part of Michelin, and also pointed out the issues that had arisen because the government had not signed the final contract.

There are preparations under way to expand the production capacity and reach an output of 20 million tyres a year, he said.
It will create around 500 new jobs, which is very important for Pirot and the nearby area, Faidy remarked.
